Creativity has always been at the heart of everything Jan Baybutt does. From an early age, she developed a love of art and crafts, and after taking redundancy from a long career in Local Government, she turned that passion into a new career creating celebration cakes and exquisitely handcrafted sugar flowers.
As her cake business flourished, Jan became known for her stunning floral designs, producing bespoke wedding and celebration cakes adorned with lifelike sugar flowers. Every bloom was individually handcrafted, combining artistic flair with meticulous attention to detail.
Just before lockdown, Jan enrolled on Sarah Stokes' very first art course at Arley Studios. The experience rekindled her passion for painting and led to the creation of a successful business specialising in pet portraits and wildlife artwork. While the pandemic temporarily slowed her cake business, it also provided the opportunity to develop her artistic skills even further.
More recently, Jan has returned to her first love of sugar flowers, creating commissioned pieces for local cake makers as well as selling her work through her Etsy shop. After helping a small group of ladies create the sugar flowers for their own wedding cakes, she discovered a real passion for teaching and sharing the techniques she has perfected over many years.
Jan is delighted to be hosting her first formal sugar flower workshop at Arley Studios, where she will guide participants step by step in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some previous experience, you'll leave with beautiful handmade sugar flowers, new skills, and the confidence to continue creating at home.
